Description

Bettas grow to about 3 inches. They are known for their brilliant colors and long fins, but in the wild they have much shorter fins. Domestic ones have flowing fins, while wild ones don't . Wild ones are also not as colorful. Bettas live to about eight years of age at the most.

Kinds of Bettas

1. Crowntail: The Crowntail Betta is known for its complex fins that look like a crown. Besides the fact that its tail looks like a crown, it's the same as any other betta.

2.Halfmoon: The Halfmoon is called a Halfmoon because of its 180 degree back fin. It is prone to tail biting and fin damage. They are hard to breed.

3.Rosetail: Rosetails can be really elaborate or just moderately so. It has three unpaired fins and extra branching. It is another kind of Halfmoon.

4. Veiltail: Veiltails are also known as the long finned bettas. They are the most popular kind of betta. They have their name because their fins make them look like bridesmaids. They can be almost any color.

5. Plakat: This is the most ferocious of all the bettas. Also known as the short finned fighter. It is used in fish fights.

6. Double Tail: The Double Tail has two back tails. They also have larger fins than other bettas.

7. Dragon Scales: Dragon Scales are never pure bred. They are  mutant plakats. They live in Thailand.

 

Reproduction

1. Male flares gills

2. Female moves fins

3. They embrace.

4. Female lays eggs

5  Male releases milt

6. Male chases female away

7. Babies emerge from nest in four days.

Food

Bettas in the wild eat insects, plankton, and smaller fish. In domestication, bettas eat flakes and pellets. They may also eat very small  pieces of the inside of tender peas.
